Preview of the February Picture sale

Included in our February picture sale is a small collection of original poster designs for Southern Railways by noted artists such as Frank Sherwin and Claude Buckle.
The railway poster and brochure publishers used good commercial artists, and the works then became the property of the company. This collection is being sold on behalf of an ex employee of the publishing company.
Scenes include Hastings, Guernsey (once part of the Southern Railway network), and Dorchester (pictured here by Claude Buckle).
Also included in the sale is a small abstract still life oil on board by Patrick Hayman (1915-1988) estimated at £500-1000, an oil nude study by John Reinhard Weguelin (1849-1927), a pair of watercolours by William Lionel Wyllie, an interesting American 19th century oil portrait of a Civil War officer, a good 18th century French oil on canvas portrait of a man wearing a powdered wig, and much more.
There will be over 400 lots in this months sale, and the fully illustrated catalogue will be uploaded to the website next Thursday.
