Enamel Signs for Sale

19th August 2015

Our antique sale next week contains a single-owner collection of vintage enamel signs, mainly dating to the early 20th century.

There are over 100 signs in the collection, being sold because the owner has re-located to a care home, where wall space is virtually non-existent, and reluctantly he has decided to part with them.

The rarest signs in the collection are the pictorial subjects, such as Black Cat cigarettes and Ogden's Robin cigarettes, and of course there are several examples encouraging you to smoke and that they "will not affect your throat"! Incredibly bold advertising (with the benefit of hindsight).

Also from the same collector, we have several vintage cigarette vending machines, mainly from the 1940s and 50s, and very decorative in their chrome and glass cases.

The enamel sign estimates vary from £50 upwards, with the larger and more decorative ones expected to make several hundred pounds.

The collection is lot 1 to 70 in our antique sale of Wednesday 19 August, with viewing on Tuesday 18 August 9am till 7pm.
