Estimate £2,000 - £3,000Sold for £1,500
Canvas is in original condition, not re-lined, no canvas damage patches or repairs, several areas of light craquelure (on the dark background to the left of the armchair) but paint all very stable with no lifting. Possibly a small area of overpainting on her chest just above the lace shawl but no other signs of overpainting, generally in very good condition but would benefit from a light clean, there is a paper label on the frame from Lawrence and Hall Ltd Depositry Harrigate inscribed Sir John Barran and another label fro Robert Rose picture cleaner and restorer South Kensington which states last cleaned September 1945, frame is almost certainly the original but has an area of damage in top left hand corner and at the centre of the bottom edge. This has come from a local private house but with no previous history.
