Harry John Pearson collection

21st August 2014

Our next picture sale on 27 August will include a large collection of oils, pastels and drawings by Harry Pearson, a well-known commercial artist who produced bright and exciting advertising images for such magazines as Women's Pictorial, The Illustrated London News, Homes and Gardens, Doulton, etc, in the period between the two world wars.

This collection has come to us directly from the artist's family, and many have not been seen in public since the artists death in 1933.

Pearson was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1915, and later became prsident of the Langham Sketch Club.  He was asked by Princess Marie Louise to provide a miniature painting for Queen Mary's famous dolls house.

The collection comprises approximately 300 works, which include many portraits of children.  Many will be sold in group lots, and they comprise the first 69 lots in this sale.
