Olympic Athletics medals from over 100 years ago

An incredible collection of athletics medals and trophies from the Olympic Games over 100 years ago are to be sold at Burstow & Hewett Auction House in Battle next week.
Athlete George Nicol ran the 400 metres for Great Britain at the London olympics in 1908; and at the Stockholm olympics in 1912, where he won the bronze medal as part of the 4x400 metres relay team.
His running career was cut short by the First World War, where he served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, and was awarded the military OBE for services in the field.
Auctioneer Mark Ellin says: “Any items relating to the early days of the Olympic Games are exceptionally rare and highly desired by collectors from a round the world.” All Olympic competitors are given an attendance medal, which do appear for sale at auction fairly regularly, but prize medals are much rarer and this lot is brings together a full colleciton. The pre-sale estimate is £3000 to £5000, but with worldwide interest it could go much higher.
The sale takes place at Burstow and Hewett in Battle, East Sussex on 9 December and includes hundreds of Antiques, Fine Furniture and Wine.
